Everyone should read the basic encounter mechanics here:
www.wowhead.com/npc=52571#encounter
(click shapeshifting to see all the abilities)
and watch this video:
This boss has two alternating phases: scorpion and cat. During scorpion we stack to share the cleave damage, and during cat RDPS and Healers spread out around the circle to mitigate the fiery leaps targeting random players at range. All raid and healing cooldowns are used during scorpion phases.
The bosses attacks speed up during each phase as the boss gains stacks of Adrenaline (20% more energy regen per stack, and he uses an ability when he reaches 100 energy). The damage also increases permanently every time we switch phases, as the Boss gets a stack of Fury.
On the second scorpion phase, there is a special mechanic, "searing seeds." Everyone gets a debuff with a different timer on it, and 5 seconds before it runs out they need to run out of the group and let it explode. On the third cat phase, another mechanic, "burning orbs," requires dpsers to rotate being the closest to each of two orbs, which function similarly to the shards on Baleroc.
Our composition and raid CDs:
tank - kilac (rallying cry 3m - can use twice)
healer - medasin (aura mastery 2m - can use every scorpion phase)
healer - moonshroud (tranquility 3m - can use twice)
healer - lyanya (power word barrier 3m - can use twice; divine hymn 8m, can use once)
rdps - weye
rdps - heiri (nether prot might be useful but probably not necessary)
rdps - jutro
mdps - conclusion
mdps - hazzah (AMS towards the end of scorp phases)
mdps - thadrana (can drop instant healing rains during scorp phases)
Weye, Jutro, and Hazzah can switch to the adds during cat phases (low ramp up time).
For orb phase, tank the boss near one burning orb rotating Kilac->Hazzah(AMS)->Thadrana(ShamRage), and rotate Medasin->Weye on the other orb. If Medasin or Weye gets leaped while tanking the orb, they can pop their immunity cds.
Fight Layout *UPDATED*:
S1: 10 stacks, use Tranquility after 7, PW:B right before 8, AM right before 9
C1: 7 stacks
S2: 4 stacks, SEEDS, Healthstone + Rallying Cry after 2, Divine Hymn after 3, Aura Mastery before 4
C2: 7 stacks
S3: 5 stacks, Heroism; Tranquility after 3, PW:B right before 4, Aura Mastery right before 5
C3: boss should die, ORBS
other tricks:
Mage: instant invis to avoid searing seeds
Rogue: feint scythes on CD; cloak of shadows as we group for the seed phase to avoid the seed. combat readiness before the 6th scythe in phase one.
Paladin: HoP as we group for seed phase to avoid the seed.
Druid: stampeding roar after every scorpion phase?
Common Mistakes, from mmochampion:
"Majordomo Staghelm
What?
Stack, use raid CDs, spread, dodge fire, stack, use raid CDs handle Seeds, spread, dodge fire, stack, raid CDs, spread, handle orbs... etcetc.
Common mistakes
1) Dying to Leaping Flames
This should never occur. The damage from normal is trivial as compared to heroic mode, and as long as you start moving immediately you shouldn't die.
One good way is to have your raid set focus (/focus) on the boss, and watch his Energy bar. When it's about to hit 100%, you KNOW a leap is going to come, so you MUST prepare for it. (Wait till you do heroic mode... this becomes 10x more crucial)
2) Dying in Seeds phase
Watch your timer immediately when you stack up. There will be 1 person who has to quickly move out of the raid within 10s, so check if it's you.
Next, don't move out too early. This is of great importance, because if you move out early and there are too many people not stacked, the boss's Flame Scythe MAY kill someone. Moving out at 5 seconds is more than sufficient, though 6 is to be safe in case 2 of you run out the same way and you need to change direction.
3) Transitioning too slow
Whether it is from cat to scorpion or scorpion to cat, the transition HAS to be fast. If you are transitioning at 7 for Cat, you need to move in THE MOMENT HE LEAPS the 7th time. You wait too long, he will just jump on your raid. Or Scythe and kill your tank. etc."
